Project on Prospect

Westfield, New Jersey

After more than 20 years in her Westfield, NJ home, our client was ready for a fresh perspective. The goal was not to start over, but to rethink the spaces she already loved and give the home a more sophisticated, distinctive point of view that felt reflective of her experiences and personal style.

We focused on creating contrast and character throughout the main living spaces, using color, pattern, custom furnishings, artwork, and carefully selected lighting to move the home away from its dated, traditional feel. In the family room, deep slate-gray walls and built-ins create a dramatic backdrop for a vibrant chartreuse sofa, richly patterned pillows, and a mix of classic and contemporary furnishings. The result is a room that feels intimate and layered while still having plenty of personality.

The living room called for a different approach. Rather than replacing every existing element, we gave the space a fresh foundation by painting the existing cherry wood trim in a warm, sophisticated neutral. That simple change allowed the room’s furnishings, artwork, and sculptural accents to take center stage while giving the entire space a lighter, more current feel.

In the kitchen, a striking European wood light fixture became the starting point for a more design-forward breakfast area. We paired it with a warm wood table and custom-upholstered chairs in a lively combination of chartreuse and blue, bringing color and personality into the bright, open space.

Throughout the home, the emphasis was on creating rooms that feel collected rather than predictable, with unexpected color combinations, distinctive artwork, custom details, and a mix of textures and finishes. The finished spaces feel sophisticated and expressive while remaining comfortable for everyday living, giving this long-loved Westfield home a fresh identity that feels much more like its owners.
